What is Hogmanay?

Hogmanay is a Scottish name for the last day of the year, and the celebration of a New Year rolls into the 1st and the 2nd of January in Scotland.  Traditionally, Scots will dance the night away at a ceilidh and first foot friends and family in the days afterwards.  When the bells come in, the name for the clock ringing at 12am,  expect a raucous cheer and joining of hands for Auld Lang Syne - a very famous poem written by Scotland’s national bard,  Rabbie Burns.

 

How can I celebrate Hogmanay/New years eve in Aviemore? 

  • Join in on the songs and the celebrations with a huge firework display outside The Cairngorm Hotel.
  • Book a table at one of Aviemore’s best restaurants, why not try something traditional like The Old Bridge. 
  • Dance the night away at a Ceilidh, try Boat of Garten Community hall for some fun with the locals.
